Toad Hall

57 Grand St. New York, NY 10013 | Tribeca | 212-431-8145

Location Description:

Bits of froggy memorabilia-plush toys, statues, figurines, etc.-are in abundance at Toad Hall, a dive bar in the spirit of foppish amphibian Mr. Toad, star of the beloved children's book The Wind in the Willows. In fact, a stuffed-animal version of the critter resides among the empty beer bottles and various doodads that clutter the mahogany bar. Mr. Toad was known for his impulsive recklessness, but regulars here are anything but. They merrily trade pool sticks in the back and relax along the cushion-lined brick walls in between turns. The others, a collective of cheerful and low-maintenance drinkers, reach for a reliable gin & tonic or one of the Bud alternatives (like the citrus-scented Hoegaarden) on tap, soaking in this whimsical intersection of child fantasy and adult playground.
