Xochimilco ("Place Where Flowers Grow") is a wonderful Sunset Park taqueria with Mexico City pretensions, but principally excelling in the cuisine of Puebla and adjacent southern states. The freshly made masa products—huaraches, sopes, gorditas, etc.––are particularly fine, whether topped with chorizo, tongue, or cecina, the salted beef beloved of Pueblans. What first drew us in was the fiery red pozole offered on the weekends, and everything on the menu we tried turned out to be fab, though you might avoid such obvious Tex-Mex interpolations as burritos and nachos. Nothing better for a big feed than the razor-thin steak served with grilled cactus paddles.
