A roustabout, a suckerpunch, a porn fest, a cake mess, and a parade of UCB performers willing to admit "I'm cool." Here's our rundown of the best in independently produced New York comedy this week.

Wednesday, February 25

Train WreckProducers Club

, 8 p.m., Free

It's the 100th edition of this weekly midtown bargain show. Tonight Kurt Metzger (the twisted brilliance behind half of the greatest Amy Schumer sketches) brings his nuanced social analysis to the mic. Joining him are nerd prince Myq Kaplan, ex-wrestler host Bob Hansen, and a stable of other fine comics.

Upcoming Events

, 9 p.m., $15

Last year, comedian Kurt Braunohler heard about a project to help malnourished families in Africa — getting just one goat and two chickens to each family, it was said, would dramatically improve their lives and health. Braunohler set out to raise $50,000 and help 500 such families. How would he do it? Well, by jet-skiing from Chicago to New Orleans, of course, doing stand-up shows along the way. How else? Comedy Central made a Web series to document the experience, which launches very soon.

Thursday, February 26

SuckerpunchLucky Jack's

, 8 p.m., Free

The best moment on Jimmy Fallon's old show was when Nick Vatterott "pretended" to forget his stand-up comedy set, and then whipped out a comically large "setlist" with all his dumb asides and act-outs typed up in excruciating detail. He's a monster talent. See him for free on the Lower East Side tonight with the deeply hilarious Lex Singer, bruising sweetheart Drew Dowdey, and too many other great funny people to name.

Running Late

Carolines, 9.30 p.m., $8 with code RLSFAN

Scott Rogowsky's midtown talk show returns with another eclectic lineup of guests. Vincent "Big Pussy" Pastore and The Daily Show's Hasan Minhaj join Shoshana Roberts, creator of the viral video sensation "10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman." There are also appearances from CNN's Bill Weir and comedian Jason Saenz.

Friday, February 27

NYC Porn Festival Secret Project Robot, various prices and showings. See more here.

The first ever NYC Porn Festival aims to "give credit to adult film as a significant and socially/culturally relevant art form" with an open submission policy. So any of your neighbors could be days away from their anointing as Big Apple porn stars. Taking place at experimental Bushwick art gallery Secret Project Robot, organizers are aiming to transform the space into a classic 42nd Street cinema experience from the Eighties, with neons, sexy booths, films and "events." Pornhub is the sponsor, so that means it might actually be pretty good.

Saturday, February 28

The Bitch Seat

The PIT, 9.30 p.m., $10

Lyssa Mandel presents this show as therapy for misspent female youth. A live talk show, Mandel's production invites guests to present the poignant and painful creations from their adolescence onstage (poetry, drawings, songs, videos, macramé, etc.) and follows up with engaging questions that cut to the heart of how all our teenage pain is the same. It's Judy Blume meets Dr. Phil, plus lots of raucous laughter and redemption. Brooke Van Poppelen is a very funny lady to look out for.

Cake or Death?Parkside Lounge

, 6.30 p.m., Free

Anyone who names an LES comedy show after an old Eddie Izzard routine about the Church of England deserves attention. Billed as a "winter matinee," this free show takes place at Parkside Lounge, the anarchic dive venue where bikers and crank dealers rub shoulders with weekend softball teams and drunk improvisers. Plus they give you free cake! Plus the monstrously funny Jessica Kirson will attend! What more could you want?

Sunday, March 1

Deeper-ness

Union Hall, 8 p.m., $10

Host Joe Zimmerman invites his favorite comedians to perform stand-up sets that explore meaningful topics. Philosophy, psychology, religion, environment, economy, death, love, childhood, race...it's all on the table. After each set, Joe and the comic sit down for a "deep talk" in which they sit awkwardly close and Joe asks them a few ridiculous questions. It's fun and not heavy at all.

Monday, March 2

The 2015 I'm Cool Showcase

UCB Chelsea, 8 p.m., $5

Every now and then, UCB throws open its doors and lays on a showcase of its (in their opinion) best and ballsiest performers. Tonight is just such a night. Doll-faced, soft-spoken Joe Pera will be present, along with the delightful Kassia Miller, explosive Don Fanelli, and beautiful spirit Connor Ratliff. There are also many, may more performers, and not a dud in the bunch.

Tuesday, March 3

OMGBFFLOL ClubLegion

, 8 p.m. Free

Anthony DeVito is the guest of honor at this Legion pal-around tonight. He's as funny as he is hairy. And he is tremendously hairy. Joining him are Vermont's own Carmen Lagala, the acerbic Shalewa Sharpe, and many more funny people. If you're a Williamsburg comedy fan and not peeking in at Legion every once in a while...um, peek in. There are sick, twisted, hilarious things going on in that back room. And if you need to tell your own jokes, Sunday afternoons and Monday nights are the time to go open-mic it up.

Tom Cowell is a comedian. Find him on Twitter @mrtomcowell or over at mrtomcowell.com. Email voicecheaplaughs@gmail.com with all listing suggestions.
