This week In Cheap Laughs, we showcase strange sketch performers, welcome UCB to the city's intellectual establishment, celebrate the Semitic failings of a non-observant Jew, and laud the stars of the internet's hottest anti-slut-shaming podcast. In other words, we do it all. Here are our picks for the best in independently produced New York comedy this week.

Wednesday, April 2

Wild At Heart Muchmore's, 9 p.m. Free.

New York sketch lords Murderfist are the guests of honor at this Williamsburg alt showcase (they created Painting With Penis, one of the great artworks of our time). With stand up by Jeffrey Joseph and Nick Vatterot, and bits from Shannon Coffey and members of Toronto group Doored, it's sure to be a strange, unspeakable time. There's also music from Ava Luna.

Thursday, April 3

The Upright Citizens Brigade Meet The Beatles The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, 6 p.m. Free. The UCB is now such a beloved institution, it's getting love from the New York Public Library. House performers Frank Hejl, Doug Moe, Ben Rameaka, and Natasha Rothwell rep the theatre in a night conversation and comedy. After a discussion of UCB's history and techniques, they will show off one of UCB's signature forms -- SHUFFLE -- where improvisers create scenes inspired by a random audience members' iPod. Except, in honor of the Library's current Beatles exhibition, tonight's performers will respond to a random selection of Fab Four songs. It's the ideal event to take parents to, and then hit them up for money to take UCB classes.

Friday, April 4

Week at the Creek: Louis Katz The Creek and the Cave, 7 p.m. Free.

Self-confessed bad Jew Louis Katz has been at the Creek and the Cave every night this week, working out his new hour. This is the last chance to see it gratis, before he takes the material on the road and only makes non-New Yorkers laugh with it. One of the strongest joke writers out there, seeing Katz for free, for a whole hour, is a damn fine dea.

  Saturday, April 5

Comedy at the Stonewall Inn Stonewall, Doors 8 p.m. / Show 8.30 p.m. $10.

The most famous gay bar in the world welcomes the straightest bear in the world: Dan St. Germain. Joining him are Detroit trouble-maker Nate Fridson, the punchy Emma Willmann and Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson from the quite remarkable "Guys We Fucked" podcast (yes, every week, they interview a man one of them has fucked).

Sunday, April 6

Stand Up and Take Your Clothes Off! The Kraine Theater, 9 p.m. $10 online here

This show features NYC's funniest women and sassiest burlesque doing what they both do best. Hot lady professionals Kitt N Kent Girl Detective, Rosabelle Selavy, Rosey La Rouge, and (my favorite) Essence Revealed will reveal almost everything to you visually. And Kerryn Feehan, Charla Lauriston, Anna Drezen and others will do the same thing emotionally.

Monday, April 7

Coyote Average Over the Eight, 8 p.m. Free.

This stand-up show has moved to a new Williamsburg location, and has not stopped trucking. The adorably neurotic Josh Gondelman is squeezing in a set ahead of his new gig as head web dude at John Oliver's new show. Also on the bill are VH1's head panty-dropper Michelle Buteau, Phoebe Robinson and Andy Beckerman.

Tuesday, April 8

The Rabbit Hole Legion, 8 p.m. Free.

One of the pre-eminent road dog comedians of the era, the hilarious Paul Hooper swings by The Rabbit Hole this week. He'll tell some jokes and hopefully share some of his incredible tales from a working life spent making mistakes in comedy club-owned condos. Joining him will be Amanda Baramki, Sameer Naseem, and others.

Tom Cowell is a comedian. Follow him on Twitter @mrtomcowell. Email with all listing suggestions.
