Surfer Blood, who once upon a time was "just some band."

Last month the CMJ Music Marathon—coming to the city's music venues from October 18 through 22—announced the first batch of artists that would be playing next month's industry confab; that list included (among others) Neon Indian, CSS, Wild Flag, Talib Kweli, Givers, Zola Jesus, Dum Dum Girls, EMA, Jean Grae, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and 4Knots Music Festival performers Davila 666 and Eleanor Friedberger. The second batch of announced artists mixes things up a little, and includes Gang Gang Dance, J Mascis, Joker, Zomby, Kendrick Lamar, Smif-N-Wessun, and Oberhofer (another 4Knots alum)—as well as a handful of bands I've never heard of, at least one of which will probably become famous. For the next two weeks, discounted badges will remain available, with the full badge going for $475 ($280 for students, who will find that festival again coincides nicely with their midterm exams). Full list of participating artists below.
