D'Angelo to Headline the Apollo Theater for First Black Messiah Performance

In the wake of his Pazz + Jop win for 2014's best album — his December 15–released Black Messiah — news is out today that D'Angelo will perform at the Apollo Theater on Saturday, February 7.

D'Angelo first appeared on the Apollo stage at age sixteen in 1991, performing under the group name Michael Archer and Precise, winning its Amateur Night three nights in a row. He used the cash prize to buy equipment, which he used to write songs that would eventually appear on his debut album, 1995's Brown Sugar.

He later returned to the Apollo as a guest artist on Showtime at the Apollo.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Wednesday, January 21st at 10 a.m. Apollo A-List can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Monday, January 19th at 10 a.m. through Tuesday, January 20th at 11:59 p.m.
