EDC NY 2016 Moves to Citi Field for a 'New Vibe'

EDM fans, get your kandi ready for the 7 train: Electric Daisy Carnival's New York edition of its traveling, wubbing circus is leaving Jersey and setting up shop at Citi Field May 14-15, 2016.
This is a welcome change in programming for Insomniac Events, the promoter that organizes EDC — and presumably for those planning on attending the festival that have little interest in leaving city limits or giving up a holiday weekend. For the past two years, EDC NY has taken place over Memorial Day weekend at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Before that, EDC NY did try Citi Field on for size to see if the home of the Mets would work for crowds throwing their hands in the air for the drop instead of a home run. The location couldn't be beat, but some kinks needed to be worked out, and Insomniac is ready to give the Queens location another try for the festival's fifth year.
"?We held EDC New York at Citi Field in 2013 with a smaller site plan and a stage layout we weren’t happy with, so we’re excited to head back into the city with a bigger festival footprint and a better experience for our fans," Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella tells the Voice. "Being in the heart of the city gives the festival a new vibe and being centrally located to the major boroughs means that our fans have more transportation options as well." That "bigger festival footprint" consists of four stages that bank on the EDC's tenets of technology, nature and art.
Insomniac and their New York partner, Pacha, are also excited about new amenities like Carnival Square, which is essentially a clubber's clubhouse complete with food and meet-and-great stations. "In addition to a new lineup, themed production, and interactive art installations, we’ll be debuting the Carnival Square experience. Carnival Square is the hub of EDC, and is a great place for our Headliners to meet up and connect with one another."
2015's EDC NY featured Tiësto, Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Krewella and more; the 2016 lineup has yet to be announced, but we'll update accordingly when we receive that info. In the meantime, fantasize about 2016's festival season and not having to choose between the beach and beats on Memorial Day weekend. It's going to be a long winter. You might as well.
