New York may never be country music's home, but the city is certainly growing as a comfortable destination for the genre. Icons in the making like Sturgill Simpson and Sam Hunt are selling out smaller rooms, while Madison Square Garden has often boasted packed houses for folks like Eric Church and Luke Bryan. On June 26, the inaugural FarmBorough Festival hopes to turn the city into a worldwide destination for country fans as over 30 artists gather for three days of hollering and hell-raising.

The event, which markets itself as New York City's first country festival, features performances from top-sellers like Dierks Bentley and Brad Paisley along with critically acclaimed artists like Brandy Clark and Chris Stapleton. The festival is one of six country music fests launched by Live Nation in the last four years, and is produced in partnership with Founders Entertainment, the company that will bring Governors Ball to the same site June 5–7.

While country music itself isn't exactly delving into the city for the first time, the festival had some fun with New York's novelty for visitors and asked a few FarmBorough artists about their first time in the city. As headliner Paisley marvels at the sheer size of NYC, Charlie Worsham recalls marching to a different beat with his high school band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Nashville duo Striking Matches remember New Yorkers as being "accommodating," while fast-rising newcomer Canaan Smith's most vivid memory is partying on a boat with Nelly. Who hasn't had that classic New York experience, right?
