Interpol, Lucius, Willie Nelson, and More to Rock Celebrate Brooklyn!'s 2015 Season

Summer in New York is fast approaching (kind of), which means we all want to get outside and make sweet love to the blooming trees and sun-flecked grass as much as humanly possible. There will be plenty of excuses to do so, of course, but nothing has been as reliably awesome throughout the entire summer, every summer, as Celebrate Brooklyn!, the award-winning concert series held at the Prospect Park bandshell.
Presented by BRIC, a nonprofit organization serving to cultivate arts and media programs throughout Brooklyn, the 37th edition of Celebrate Brooklyn! will start off with a bang on June 3 with Chaka Khan. Can you honestly think of anything better than lounging in a park on one of the first warm nights of the summer, the sun just finishing up its descent through the trees as the Queen of Funk kicks into her first song? No. You can't.
Khan's will be the first of 29 performances that will run through August 12, when Willie Nelson will bring the series to a close. Most of the shows are free, but a few, including Nelson, Modest Mouse, and Damien Rice, will cost you a few bucks. (Even if you don't want to spring for a ticket, though, you can always show up and lay down a blanket outside the cordoned-off area and pick up on the vibes.)
The concert series is meant to celebrate the city in which it's held, so New York artists are well represented. Brooklyn's own Lucius will headline a free night of music, June 13, that will also feature Here We Go Magic's Luke Temple. Lucius has been selling out shows like crazy, so you might want to get there a little early to claim a spot. A month later, on July 9, Punch Brothers will play with fellow mandolin strummer Sarah Jarosz, who recently moved to Brooklyn, and on July 25, Porches. will open for Sylvan Esso. A few days before that, on July 21, Manhattan's venerated indie darlings Interpol will play a ticketed show all by their lonesome. Get excited.
