You have to believe he is [J] Majik

It's official. P.S.1 should just put me on the payroll. I've written about their Warm Up series just about every week since it started, but I really have no choice. There's nothing better going on this summer on a consistent basis—and where else do you get to go to a beach and hear beats without flying to Miami or Ibiza? This week two members of GusGus are spinning—Buckmaster de la Cruz and Earth. I'm not sure what they are spinning, but my guess is that it will mirror their band's sound—something esoteric, quirky, left-field, and pretty. Just right for an outdoor party. They share the day with a duel between BMG (Ectomorph) and Liquid Liquid's Sal Principato, with the former twiddling the knobs and the latter providing vocals and percussion. Also appearing on this quite action-packed day is DJ Kaos of K7. Sat @ 3, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, 22-25 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, Qns, 718-784-2084. The GusGus duo is also playing with Nicolas Matar earlier in the week, if you can't make it to the outer borough. Thu @ 10, Cielo, 18 Little W 12th, 212-645-5700

Deep Space finds resident DJ Fran K handing over the party for one night to Philly's funk DJ King Britt. He spins all night, with Tim Motzer adding guitar effects and ambient dub. Using soul as the thread that holds things together, Britt moves through genres—hip-hop, broken beats, deep house—with ease, making him the perfect replacement for Fran Mon @ 9:30, Cielo, 18 Little W 12th, 212-645-5700

As a former drum'n'bass obsessive, I like to check in every now and then and see what's been happening with the scene I left behind. J Majik, a familiar name from the past and once known for stuff that was a bit more experimental, has mutated into a harder force of nature than his prior incarnation. He's spinning the city's only reliable d'n'b weekly left, with Raw Q, the night's resident and promoter DJ Seoul, and DJ Brak. Sat @ 10, Rothko, 116 Suffolk, 212-475-7088
