For a night you can feel like you're at a megatechno club in Berlin, for much cheaper. The Bunker takes over both floors of Tonic, welcoming Monolake, who produces austere, minimal German techno and has a new CD, Polygon Cities. He plays with Deadbeat, who chimes in remotely from Japan via Internet, as part of the "Atlantic Waves" series. The future must be here. Monolake and Deadbeat share the bill with San Francisco's Safety Scissors, who makes so-called IDM and whose music is usually described using the adjective quirky. (Well, it is.) Old-school New Yorker DJ Olive of the Agriculture (and formerly of We) spins with Todd Sines (Planet E/Peacefrog), Archetype, Smartypants & Local Fields, David Last, and more. A smorgasbord of experimental electronic music to fit your every need! Fri @ 10, Tonic, 107 Norfolk, 212-358-7501
DJ Kimyon fires up his monthly party Pockit Rockit with this week's super- special guest, Juan Atkins (a/k/a Model 500). Electronic music history lesson alert: Atkins, as you probably know, is credited, along with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, with creating the modern "techno" soundfusing the influences of Kraftwerk and Parliament- Funkadelic to create classics like "Clear" that sound as if they were created yesterday. Thu @ 10, APT, 419 W 13th, 212-414-4245
Rich Medina, the Philly funk, soul, and deep-house brother, comes in from the so-called "sixth borough" (cough, cough) to celebrate the four-year anniversary of his popular Jump N Funk Party. Thanks to his mix of Afrobeat, old soul, funk, r&b, and house records, the beloved DJ has built such a dedicated following in both cities that he has residencies in both. (He must not mind the commute.) Thu @ 10, S.O.B.'s, 204 Varick, 212-243-4940
