Everyone needs a little honey in their life, especially if that honey is Miss Honey Dijon, the only transgender house DJ in the world worth writing about. She doesn't use her "it" as a gimmick, nor does she need to. The Chicago native and current New Yorker, one of the most superior DJs technically and musically, is celebrating her birthday with her hometown hero Derrick Carter. To hear them both at the cozy club is a birthday treat for yourself, whenever it may be. Sunday @ 10, Cielo, 18 Little W 12th, 212-645-5700

The Root Down, the popular West Coast funk-soul-r&b-house jam, comes to NYC with a special guest, Afrika Bambaataa. The man behind "Planet Rock," the single that spawned electro and (help us all) electroclash, has been putting out records all this time. The last one, Dark Matter: Moving at the Speed of Light, has one track with Gary Numan on it that demands multiple replays. He spins with Root Down residents Miles, Dusk, and DJ Center. Monday @ 10, Table 50, 643 Bway, 212-253-2560

You know how when you have so many things on your iPod, you just wind up listening to the same three albums? That's the role Ezekiel Honig and his latest disc with Morgan Packard, Early Morning Migration, fill for me. It's a choice between that and silence. It's pretty, found-sound, locally made idm that carves moods out of ambient noise, invoking sunny days and foreshadowing the impending nightfall. They play live, with a DJ set from Giles Dickerson. Friday @ 7:30, Gigantic Brand, 59 Franklin

Nublu, the little club with the little blue light on Avenue C, is kicking of a not so little festival this week. The fest features Wax Poetic, Erik Truffaz, U-Roy, Kudu, and Forro in the Dark, among others. Butch Morris conducts the Nublu Orchestra opening night, and Tuesday finds the Brazilian Girls on their original stomping ground. Monday through 6/26, Nublu, 62 Ave C, 212-279-9925,
