Music

Did they invent new wave?

Despite being a zillion years old, Nazareth do a far more ferocious "Hair of the Dog" than otherwise feisty Montana whippersnappers the International Playboys, thanks to the latter lacking much of a percussion break and the former including an amazing Dan McCafferty bagpipe solo that quotes "You'll Take the High Road and I'll Take the Low Road," a ditty Glaswegians appear quite fond of. The turn-of-the-'80s suburban Detroit teens on Freaks and Geeks, meanwhile, appear quite fond of April Wine and "Flame- thrower" by J. Geils and bowling-alley discos on 15 Mile, the historical accuracy of which is not lost on this turn-of-the-'80s suburban Detroit teen, though few others even noticed.
