Ladies and Gentlemen: The Screaming Eagle of Soul is set to have a huge 2016, and he'll be flying through our private issue release party marking the 43rd annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll on his ascent on January 12.
Charles Bradley might be one of Brooklyn's most beloved singers, and he's certainly one to watch in the coming months: On April 1 he'll be dropping Changes, his newest release with Daptone Records and the follow-up to 2013's remarkable Victim of Love, which solidified his status as one dependable torchbearer of modern soul. His voice is as splendid as his hip-squiggling skills and the brilliant, sequined flourishes of his personalized jumpsuits, perfectly tailored for the spotlight. Jonathan Toubin (a/k/a Soul Clap) will round out the night with a DJ set following Bradley's booty-shakin'.
In short: Start thinking up excuses now, because you will undoubtedly be rolling into work late next Wednesday morning should you score an invite to this private party.
Reminder: You can totally print out our coloring contest and enter to win two tickets to this rockin' soul affair. Bradley may even hug you! He's got a tendency to do that. To enter the Pazz & Jop coloring contest, simply grab your implement of choice — crayons, pastels, those weird gel pens left over from middle school, whatever, go nuts — draw like a fiend, snap a photo, post it to Instagram or Twitter with a #pazzandjop hashtag thrown in for good measure, and tag us @villagevoice. You have until January 8 to make your masterpiece, and you have to be 21+ to enter.
