Perhaps You'd Be Interested In Hearing The Directors Of Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" Video Explain Themselves
Here we have MTV's chat with Coodie and Chike, who helmed Ms. Badu's slightly NSFW ode to Matt & Kim and the eradication of groupthink. Erykah herself, of course, has Tweeted about 2,000 times about it in the last 24 hours, offering everything from amusing anecdotes to nonchalant defiance. But perhaps you'd like an outsider/male perspective. Salient quote:
Days before she went in front of the camera, Badu spoke to her children, all three of their fathers and other family members to make sure everyone was OK with what she was going do. Everyone supported her. Then she had her own insecurities to deal with.
"That was a concern of hers," Chike said about the singer getting naked. "Her body, she's a vegetarian, she also has three kids. So she was like, 'I haven't worked out,' but it was cool. Nobody was trippin' on that. Everybody thought she was super sexy. She has big assets, thick assets. ... That totally wasn't the point of the video. [She was] not trying to show off those things."
Pretty tastefully handled, I think. As a bonus, here's a Houston Chronicle article in which Dallas officials note that Badu's shoot was technically illegal. Key word appearing in the headline: "harumph."
