New York City-based Braeves join Aeges and Thee Headcoatees in the "bands with a superfluous 'E'" department, but it's likely Grizzly Bear, Local Natives, and the Shins you'll hear bits and pieces of on their new, gorgeously sprawling five-song EP Drifting by Design. It was produced by Mike Watts (As Tall As Lions, The Dear Hunter, not Minutemen -- notice the "S" at the end of the name) and we're happy to premiere it in full after the jump before the band takes the stage for its release party at Cameo Gallery this weekend, Sept. 13. (If you can't make that one, they're at Baby's All Right with Snowmine on Oct. 12.) "This record means everything to us," the band says. It's easy to imagine why. They've worked on it the last couple years, with different band members and using different band names. Through all the -- excuse us here -- drifting, they refined the sound and style they were searching for, and Drifting by Design is the result. The EP, "allows us to breathe as musicians and will give us the pleasure of playing these songs for our crowd and humbly give out these records to anyone who wants to listen."

If that's you (and it should be) you can give Braeves a listen after the jump.
