Sky Ferreira on the Music Industry, in Illustrated Form
Trouble seems to follow the model-turned-quasi-pop princess. Last month, she and boyfriend Zachary Cole Smith of DIIV were arrested for drug possession. Shortly after, Ferreira canceled her remaining U.S. tour dates with Vampire Weekend due to a vocal injury.
Despite Ferreira's setbacks, it seems like the world is finally ready for the outspoken songstress. Her highly-anticipated debut album, Night Time, My Time, is out net week, October 29th. The controversial album cover, shot by director Gaspar Noé, features Ferreira topless in a shower. We haven't found the correlation between the brooding image and its catchy '80s-inspired pop tracks, but that's one way to ensure people will Google the album.
On the subject of the artwork being a publicity stunt, the singer told Stereogum: "It's like, are you kidding me? I'd sell way more if I just put a picture of my face. That's the fact. I'd sell more copies of me just looking cute. That's what sells more. That's what sells at Wal-Mart. Not someone in a bathtub looking like they're about to kill someone. Topless."
No one tells Ferreira what to do. Here's what she had to say about the music industry:
