Monday, 7/15:

Dillon Francis Highline Ballroom 8pm, $15-$20 A true moombahton success story, L.A.'s Dillon Francis parlayed a couple big tunes--jittery, squelchy, Dutch-house-meets-reggaeton tracks "Masta Blasta" and "Que Que"--into EDM semi-stardom. Two years after releasing his breakthrough EP, Westside!, the DJ has moved in the direction of big-hook festival house and hard-hitting dubstep, often smashing them together, as on recent tracks like "Messages" and "I.D.G.A.F.O.S." Tonight, he plays an MTV showcase, one that might boost his career even more. -- By Nick Murray

Matthew Morrison 54 Below Monday through Wednesday, 7pm; Tuesday, 9pm, $65-$75 Long before he was Mr. Schuester on Glee, he was a B'way regular playing roles like South Pacific's Lieutenant Cable. Hence, of course, the Where It All Began title he's given the new CD introed during this gig. Suave as can be and down to earth, he'll undoubtedly be back on The Great White Way once the series takes it final bow. In the meantime, here he is, crooning sexily and moving fluidly to standards first heard in the show-bizzy neighborhood. -- By David Finkle

'Sixth Annual Metro Star Challenge' Metropolitan Room 7pm, $20 Here's the yearly chance to see what talents cabaret wannabes think will get them somewhere, and believe you me, they have to be brave souls to fight this battle. The winner, judged by the audience as well as a panel thought to know something about boite requirements, gets a week at the club, and the two runners-up get to open for her or him. So far, there's only been one winning him, T. Oliver Reid, and his Broadway career is what's taking him the distance. Nevertheless, may the best aspirant win. -- By David Finkle

Tuesday, 7/16:

Mac Miller Hammerstein Ballroom 7pm, $45-$73 Fresh off the release of his second studio album Watching Movies with the Sound Off, Mac is back and ready to migrate through space. Well, that's at least what his tour's name, The Space Migration Tour indicates. Featuring Chance the Rapper, Vince Staples, and the Internet, Mac Miller has assembled a pretty tight crew of some of the best young names in hip hop right now for a show that's most definitely going to filled to the brim with Miller's extremely loyal and rabid fan base who could never imagine turning the sound off on Mac. -- By Brittany Spanos

Wire Bowery Ballroom 8pm, $20/$24 Art-punk rabble-rousers Wire have never conformed to the rock-career norms, whether hiring a Wire cover band to open for them when they grew weary of their early material or changing their name to Wir when drummer Robert Gotobed left the band briefly. Their latest poke in the eye of conformity is their 13th full-length, Change Becomes Us, which consists of songs sketched out in 1979 and 1980--tunes that were performed live, no less--that the group has reconstructed into new tracks. The fact that it sounds like Wire without sounding dated may be their biggest feat to date. With Bear in Heaven. -- By Kory Grow

Joel Harrison 19 Jazz at Lincoln Center Tuesday & Thursday, 7:30pm & 9:30pm daily, $35 We know he's a killer guitarist, but evidently he's got an inner Gil Evans that's been waiting to emerge. The music on the new Infinite Possibility flows through myriad scenarios, and each waxes lush and engaging, even when it speaks in a series of murmurs. It dodges dissonance, yet feels modern. Neat tricks from a magical composer. -- By Jim Macnie
