We're Throwing a 2015 Pazz & Jop Party AND a Coloring Contest
The ballots are in — and now we wait. You know what's cool to do while you're waiting? ACTIVITIES.
The 43rd annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll is officially underway, and we're only two weeks off from celebrating the incredible talent that gave us the best songs, albums and performances of 2015. The Pazz & Jop issue hits the little red boxes on January 13 (and we'll be publishing everything here on January 12), but we've got news: In addition to the 2015 Pazz & Jop poll and all of the critical discourse, essays and features we'll be running along with it, we're throwing a party featuring some pretty amazing special guests. We're also running this coloring contest in this week's issue, and you can win two tickets to our invite-only shindig by channeling your inner Picasso in the name of P&J.
Does the illustration look familiar? If you're a fan of Shea Serrano's The Rap Yearbook, that's why. Arturo Torres, the man responsible for the fantastic images that deck out the pages of Serrano's triumph of a New York Times bestseller, drew up five notable Pazz & Jop favorites for us — D'Angelo (2014 Album of the Year - Black Messiah), Kanye West (Album of the Year: 2004 - College Dropout, 2005 - Late Registration, 2010 - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, 2013 - Yeezus), Adele (2011 Single of the Year, "Rolling in the Deep"), Amy Winehouse (2007 Single of the Year, "Rehab") and Kendrick Lamar (2012's runner-up for Album of the Year with good kid, m.A.A.d city).
To enter the Pazz & Jop coloring contest, simply grab your medium of choice — crayons, pastels, those weird gel pens leftover from middle school, whatever, go nuts — draw like a fiend, snap a photo, post it to Instagram or Twitter with a #pazzandjop hashtag thrown in for good measure and tag us @villagevoice. You have until January 8 to make your masterpiece, and you have to be 21+ to enter.
Get sketchin', and stay tuned for the results of the 43rd Annual Pazz & Jop Critic's Poll on January 12.
