12 Dead, 31 Wounded in Fort Hood Massacre (Update: SHOOTER ALIVE, Hospitalized)
At least three shooters in army fatigues -- not necessarily soldiers -- have shot up the Fort Hood army base in Killeen, Texas. The perps started their assault at 1:30 p.m. Seven are reported dead, 20 wounded. The latest reports have the shooters neutralized or at bay, but the base remains in lockdown.
Fox reminds us that have been soldier-on-soldier shooting deaths in the past at the base, but nothing as organized and catastrophic as apparently this attack has been. The possibility of an outside force can't be discounted.
Update: Totals still going up: new reports say "as many as 9" dead.
Update 2: Latest tally: 12 dead, 31 wounded. The neutralized shooter is identified as Major Nidal Malik Hasan; two other shooters are in custody; it's not clear whether any others are at large, nor what motivated the rampage.

Update 3: Military briefing confirms that there were three shooters, all accounted for. President Obama calls the attack "horrific," sends "thoughts and prayers" to the casualties' families. All those killed are soldiers; local news outlets are informing readers as to whether their state has Guardsmen at the fort.
Update 4: Shooting suspect Major Nidal Malik Hasan is alive and in stable condition, but has not been interrogated yet.
