8-Year-Old Found Dead at Peninsula Hotel; Mother Suspected (Updated)
An 8-year-old boy has been found dead at the Peninsula Hotel at 55th Street and Fifth Avenue. His mother, allegedly a "socialite" named Gigi Jordan, 49, who lives at the Trump International on the West Side, checked into the hotel with the boy on Wednesday and left "alarming e-mail messages" with a relative in Belgium, who contacted hotel management.
The boy was reportedly found strangled* and the mother distraught and surrounded by pills with which she is presumed to have attempted suicide. She was taken to Bellevue for a stomach pump. Police tell the Daily News she has retained a lawyer. Investigation is ongoing.
The Peninsula is an expensive hotel known for its pleasant rooftop bar.
* Update Feb. 6: Further details emerge: The boy, named Jude and reportedly autistic, was not strangled, but fed an overdose of drugs; Mrs. Jordan is charged with second-degree murder; she was allegedly upset about a divorce and mentioned, in a suicide note and post-discovery ravings, child porn rings and large donations to Haitian relief funds.
