Amiri Zeqiri, Teenage Dunkin' Donuts Employee, Dies in Cesspool
A teenage doughnut shop employee was taking out the garbage on Sunday night and fell into a cesspool and died, police said.
Amiri Zeqiri, 17, was taking out the garbage shortly after 9 p.m. behind a Dunkin' Donuts in Smithtown, Long Island, when he fell into an 8-foot-deep uncovered sewage pit. Zeqiri's 14-year-old cousin was in the shop when he realized his cousin had been gone for a while. When he searched for him, he found Zeqiri in the cesspool, and ran to a nearby store to get help. When he returned, Zeqiri's body was no longer visible.
According to WABC 7, about 75 police and firefighters from Suffolk County Police Department's Emergency Services unit showed up and pulled the teen from the cesspool and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Dunkin' Donuts' parent company, Dunkin' Brands Inc., has yet to comment.
