Andrea Fay Friedman, Family Guy Down Syndrome Actress, Says Sarah Palin Carries Trig "Like a Loaf of French Bread"
An actress with Down Syndrome who did the voiceover for a cartoon character that spurred Sarah Palin's latest accusation of unfairness toward herself and her family has chided the former Governor of Alaska for her humorless response.
Andrea Fay Friedman, 39, a veteran actress with Down Syndrome, voiced a similarly-afflicted character in a Family Guy episode who announced her mother was "the former governor of Alaska," to which Palin reacted indignantly.
Friedman says that the line was "very funny," that "I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor," and that her own mother "did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes."
The New York Times interviewed Friedman on the subject, who said that her character was "Miss Bossy. I didn't want to be bossy, but since they want me to be bossy, I just had to be as the character." When she saw Sarah Palin, accompanied by Trig, on the news complaining about the show, Friedman said she reacted, "I'm like, 'I'm not Trig. This is my life.' I was making fun of Sarah Palin, but not her son."
The Times quoted part of Friedman's statement, omitting the French bread remark. Comments are livelier there than usual ("Timmeh!").
In addition to roles on Life Goes On, Law & Order, and elsewhere, Friedman has appeared as a motivational speaker on the subject of living with disabilities.
In a humorous sidelight, the rightblogger site Light Seeking Light observed last March, "Those who criticize Sarah Palin for deciding to give birth to a child with Down Syndrome should note the career of Andrea Fay Friedman."
