Apple's iPhone Porn Purge Deletes Thousands of Apps: Reports

The rumored removal of sexy apps for iPhones seems to have come to pass.

The first shot in the war on porn apps came, per CNET, when "Apple notified developer Chillifresh that its Wobble iBoobs application was being removed from the App Store." Now it is reported that thousands of other apps were removed over the weekend.

Apple is famously tight-lipped about policy decisions, but the general impression is that the purge is of sexual content.

The proud makers of Wobble iBoobs claim Apple gave them new third-party app rules including no women (or men) in bikinis, "no skin," and "no sexual connotations or innuendo." But a quick browse shows that, if these are indeed rules, they are not hard and fast.

Upcoming Events

Cult of Mac says, and we have confirmed, that some sex-themed apps such as Stick Sutra ("18+... contains 29 High Detailed/Quality Positions with position names") and Erotic Dice Pro remain in iTunes, as do mass-market company offerings such as Playboy's, though their app contains only the softest of core.

Other smartphone vendors may find a market opportunity here. "Enjoy Your iPhone, Prudes! Android: Party On!" says Android fan site Phandroid.

The Hottest Girls app, which we reviewed last June, in no longer for sale.
