Audio From Jet Crash Online at VF; Pilots Angry
At Vanity Fair you can hear some of the cockpit recordings from an mid-air crash between a corporate jet and an airliner over Brazil in 2006. The International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations is pissed about it.
"[Cockpit Voice Recordings] are intended for one purpose, to help investigators determine the factors that led to an accident with the aim of preventing an accident of the same type in the future," says the Federation. They are "outraged" that they have been "used by a media provider for public entertainment."
One recording has the private jet pilots asking, "What the hell was that?... we got fucking hit.... okay, we're goin' down." The other, from the passenger jet, is unremarkable until the end, when all hell breaks loose. It's a little like Charlie Victor Romeo, except some of the people you're listening to are about to die.
