AVN Adult Entertainment Expo: Welcome to Vegas
Last week, The New York Times reported a slow down in the growth of the adult industry, but that hasn't stopped thousands of producers, performers, salespeople, and fans from packing up and heading to Las Vegas for the 10th annual Adult Video News (AVN) Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE). The buzz word for this year's trade show not only contradicts The Times' eye-catching headline, it's a familiar adjective in the world of blue movies: bigger. And I'm not just talking about the size of the starlets' butts in Tailz From The Darkside or the width and girth of male newcomer Tommy Pistol's cock. Size matters alright, but this measurement is all about the numbers. Promoters promise that AEE will attract more exhibitors (340 plus), more stars (250 plus), and, they predict, more attendees, than ever before. Plus, the AVN Awards Show, aka the X-Rated Oscars, has been relocated from The Venetian Hotel's Grand Ballroom (which seats up to 4000) to the 7000-seat Mandalay Bay Events Center. The ceremony will recognize porno excellence in a dizzying 119 different categories from Best Actor to Best Threeway Sex Scene to Best Ethnic-Themed Series-Latin. Will it all live up to the hype? Through daily blogs, I'll bring you my take on the festivitiesboth on the convention floor and off.
