Barack Obama to Couples: Ask for Campaign Donations Instead of Wedding Gifts
Want to make that special day -- your wedding -- even more special?
Well, President Barack Obama has one idea: You can ask your guests to donate to his campaign "in lieu of a gift" with the Obama event registry.
Campaign staffer Laura Wilson wrote on Obama's fundraising blog: "Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up? Let your friends know how important this election is to you -- register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift. It's a great way to support the President on your big day. Plus, it's a gift that we can all appreciate -- and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl."
Though this politicking is being derided as tacky (with good reason) another bit posted on the Obamablog rivals the registry's cheesiness -- Obama's dating tips.
Yes, the leader of the free world is imploring young men to take their romantic interests on long walks, to museums, and to artsy movies: "Guys out there, art, it impresses people," he said.
Michelle said that their first date -- which included an art museum trip and a Spike Lee flick -- "showed all his sides -- he was hip, cutting edge, cultural, sensitive..."
We're still checking into this, but we are not yet aware of a similar Mitt Romney wedding/event registry, so if you happen to know of one, let us know.
