Bloomberg Spent the Blizzard in Bermuda

A handful of local reporters, along with some angry, snow-stuck citizens, spent the last two weeks wondering where exactly Mayor Mike Bloomberg spent the Christmas blizzard -- you know, the one that the city wasn't really prepared for, leaving our leader's approval ratings in the dumps -- and today, the New York Times has an answer: his private plane was spotted in Bermuda. It doesn't snow in Bermuda! "I decline to comment on the Mayor's private schedule, personal life or personal property," said the mayor's spokesman. A likely story...

The City Room blog reports:

Mr. Bloomberg and his aides refuse to talk about it. But the residents of Bermuda have taken no such vow of silence.

They say that Mr. Bloomberg's plane arrived on the island, where he owns a large waterfront vacation home, sometime after midnight on Christmas morning. They spoke on condition of anonymity, for fear of inflaming the mayor and the local authorities, who prize discretion for visiting dignitaries.

The mayor's public schedule shows that he attended a Mass late in the evening on Dec. 24 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan. After that, he did not re-emerge in New York City until about 4 p.m. on Dec. 26.

And in case you were wondering, yes, the weather was "gorgeous." A high of 65 degrees on Christmas, the be exact, though it hit a scorching 69 the next day.

"I was totally in communications and in charge and accountable all the time," said Bloomberg. Whatever you say, chief.
