Breaking: Yet Another Suspicious Package Found in Times Square
Police have evacuated a small area of Times Square due to a suspicious package. NotifyNYC says there police activity in the vicinity of 46th Street and Broadway; expect street closures in the Times Square area. CNN is now saying the package was found near 45th Street, and NBC New York says police are checking the object, which sources described as a "cooler or lunchbox" found under a bench in front of the Marriott Marquis Hotel on Broadway.
Updated: All clear: The object was a cooler! Full of water bottles. Wouldn't a nice cold beer taste great right now?
Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that at least seven suspicious packages have been reported in the wake of the Times Square bomb -- and none of them were actually bombs. This morning a cupcake vendor reported a mysterious duffel bag in the area. The police found it to contain "a gray shirt, white tube socks, a toothbrush and pens."
Not that we're criticizing. As the vendor put it: "Sometimes right, sometimes wrong. Everybody has to be careful."
Either way, you probably want to avoid Midtown West at the moment.
