Bronx Church Burglar Suspect Nabbed by Cops

Police say they have arrested and charged a Bronx man on two burglary counts, and are investigating him as a suspect for a string of eight other similar burglaries at churches and parochial schools in the Bronx's 50th and 52nd precincts.

51-year-old Nathaniel Linden was arrested yesterday in connection with a break-in at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Philip Neri. The New York TimesCity Room blog says police later charged him with a second burglary count when they matched him to surveillance camera footage from a break-in at the Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Fordham on Dec. 13.

Those two break-ins are only the latest in a series of eight other late-night neighborhood church burglaries where "unknown suspects" stole cash and computer equipment. Police say they recovered hair fibers from one of those break-ins (a Nov. 29 incident at the Our Lady of Refuge school on Briggs Avenue) and are investigating Linden as a suspect in those crimes.
