Brooklyn A.D.A. Yaser Othman Charged With Failing To Punch Cop (Who Found Weed In Attorney's Car)
There's bad news for a Brooklyn assistant district attorney: the law also applies to him -- which is unfortunate considering he's accused of trying to punch a cop who found weed in his car.
Brooklyn A.D.A. Yaser Othman, 41, was arrested Saturday after he allegedly tried to punch an NYPD officer in Queens who stopped him for driving erratically. Additionally, police found a few joints in the attorney's car.
According to police, Othman was speeding and swerving in and out of lanes on the Whitestone Expressway about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday. He was stopped by police near the corner of Astoria and Ditmars boulevards.
Once stopped, Othman refused to get out of his 2002 white Mitsubishi Galant. When the officer tried to physically remove him from the vehicle, Othman allegedly tried to punch the cop. However, he missed.

After Othman failed at punching a cop, the officer found a few "marijuana cigarettes" in the attorney's car.
For now, Othman's been charged with reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, reckless driving, attempted assault, possession of marijuana and failing to signal.
According to the New York Post, "Othman joined Brooklyn prosecutors in 2010 after serving as a law clerk in New Jersey. He's also worked for legal aide, the New York State Attorney General's Office and the City Council."
The paper also notes that "Othman is too new a hire to have made much of a mark or establish any kind of reputation."
Othman has since been suspended from the Brooklyn D.A.'s Office.
