By Mayoral Proclamation, Today is Bloody Mary Day
The Mayor has proclaimed today Bloody Mary Day, or so management of the St. Regis Hotel tells us. The breakfast cocktail is alleged to have been invented in the King Cole room there 75 years ago as the "Red Snapper" by Fernand Petiot, though there are other claimants, including the comedian George Jessel. The St. Regis strives to show ownership of the cocktail today: Both the hotel's New York and D.C. outlets offer themed events, including "an energizing Bloody Mary spa menu including a skin purifying Vodka Tomato Clay Wrap followed by an invigorating Tomato Vermouth and Mineral Salt bath," and the addition of celebrity bartender variants to their drink menus. And the St. Regis Atlanta will sell its version, the "West Paces Mary," for 99 cents. Well, hasn't it been a hard week already? And now that no one's ever going to eat steak tartare again, we have to do something with our Worcestershire sauce. Image (cc) BitchBuzz.
