Carl Paladino Blames the Media in Slightly Batshit, Sore Loser Letter
Carl Paladino was pretty much crushed by Andrew Cuomo in the race for governor of New York, and if you thought he was going to be a gracious failed candidate then you weren't paying attention to any of the campaign. Yesterday, he sounded off about the media in a letter to political journalist and Capital Tonight anchor Liz Benjamin, obtained by WNYC's Azi Paybarah. It's typically delusional, rude, almost sad and four pages long. You can read the whole thing below.
Though it is dated November 24, Paladino didn't get around to sending the letter until Friday. In it, he calls Benjamin's interview with Cuomo "pathetic." That's just the beginning.
Media criticism is one thing -- and the points about softballing politicians might stand elsewhere -- but coming from Paladino, it's extremely hard to take seriously. Critiquing a reporter should not be and is not his job; thankfully neither is running New York. Also, ad hominem attacks never help a case.
"Maybe it's your youth; immaturity, inexperience or what appears to be an endless desire to ingratiate yourself with people in power," he writes. "Whatever it is, it's not consistent with the Mantel of Journalism, but it will be the reason you will not make it to the big time."
"Watch O'Reilly interview Bush and learn good journalism," he adds later, going into detail about the talk between the former president and Fox host.
The whole thing is too personal to be constructive. Instead, it's nuts. "When we first met I thought you were cool and discerning and had read Animal Farm. Liz, all pigs are equal, but in New York some pigs are more equal than others."
"Yes Liz, some pigs are more equal than others and you and your friends in the press are very much a part of the problem," he writes in conclusion. As Paybarah at WNYC reminds us, this is all coming from the man who told a reporter, "I'll take you out, buddy!"
Paladino's signature follows the last line, along with a P.S. threatening to tell more when he's "ready" and CC to "Everybody."
Fine, Carl, here you go: Liz Benjamin
