Cesspool Claims Lives of Two Long Island Teens
Today in horrible news, two Long Island teenagers are dead after falling into a cesspool on Wednesday night. Eduardo Vanegas-Fuentes, 16, and Edgar Calderon-Castro, 19, had apparently lifted the concrete cover off the cesspool, and after Vanegas-Fuentes fell in the 16-foot-deep hole, which was half-full of waste, Calderon-Castro tried to save him. A third teen was there and alerted a parent, who called 911. Authorities used a 12-foot pole and a roof ladder with hooks to rescue the boys. The two had been listed in critical condition after being rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest; they were pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center this morning. Please, everyone, stay away from cesspools. [ABC News]
