Chinatown Fire Kills 1, Injures at Least 20
Very early this morning the second floor of 22 Saint James Place in Chinatown caught fire, which spread quickly, collapsing the roof before firefighters could tame it. The building had been cited by the city for defective, exposed wiring, but that condition had allegedly been settled at the time of the blaze. Three people had to jump for it, and suffered serious injuries; twenty people were hurt in all (the Post puts the number at 28), including eight firefighters; one man is dead. (Update: A second fatality is reported; the dead are Tony Wong, 32, and his girlfriend, Anna Luu, 33.")
