CPAC Conservative "Woodstock" Kicks Off With Jokes About Ugly Liberal Women, Etc.
"Tea Partiers could crash CPAC's party," said UPI this morning (sourcing RedState's Eric Erickson, who demanded "a purging of the movement" -- he's big on purges), but there doesn't seem much at the Conservative Political Action Conference, which kicked off today in D.C., that TP people would object to.
The keynote speech was given by Florida Senate challenger Marco Rubio (pictured). David Frum called the speech "conservative candy," and notes that Rubio made an Obama teleprompter joke while using a teleprompter. (Ben Smith says Rubio actually worked from a "printed text," which is more conservative.)
Frum also says rightblogger Robert Stacy McCain "tries to rally reporters to applaud Marco Rubio." If they don't, that proves bias!
Also speaking this morning: TownHall's Jason Mattera, who called CPAC "our Woodstock," and said liberals snort cocaine and their women are ugly. (Brandon English tweets: "CPAC guy has taken shots at ugly liberal women. feminism, and "slutty Obama girl" in the last 5 minutes -- and now he's on to the gays.")
There is a CPAC straw poll of Presidential contenders which includes Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, Ron Paul and, of course, Sarah Palin. This afternoon Thomas DiLorenzo, author of "Lincoln Unmasked: What You're Not Supposed to Know About Dishonest Abe," will give a talk called, "Friend or Foe? Abraham Lincoln on Liberty."
Rachel Maddow has bravely gone amongst them. "Rachel Maddow on the floor the exhibit hall at #CPAC," tweets Clint Petersen. "Asked why she paints us all with the same brush...she asked if I will hear Coulter." "We're wearing the exact same Moscot glasses," enthuses Politico's Michael Calderone.
