Cuffed Fugitive in Leg Irons Uses Knees to Drive Away in Police Car
Not as easy as it looks!
Let no one say that Jose Rodriguez, 27, is not good with his knees. After being apprehended by police this afternoon in a Fort Lee Holiday Inn parking lot for questioning in a nonfatal shooting, plus charges of DUI and parole violation, he managed a movie-esque escape, reports the New York Times City Room blog.
He was placed in the back of an unmarked police car in handcuffs and leg irons, and that's when things got a little bit Houdini.
Via the Times,
As the officers proceeded to search Mr. Rodriguez's vehicle, where they discovered a gun, Mr. Rodriguez slipped into the front seat of the unmarked police car and, using his knees to steer, sped away, Mr. Browne said.
The cops have since discovered the car, with leg irons and handcuffs still inside. The fugitive, also known as "Flip," is on the loose, with police "scouring the area around Ridgefield," New Jersey.
Here's his photo.
He was wearing a blue T-shirt with gray sweatpants and white sneakers, according to the NYPD. If you have any information, call their Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
Until they find him, we'll be watching this.
