David Paterson v. Shelly Silver: An Epic Battle of the Snarks (or, Like, Not)

As if we needed proof that life is just like high school, and high school is just like middle school, and mean girls are everywhere: This weekend in Albany, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (who, BTW, never would have gotten past the first wave of cheerleading tryouts) got all pissy when Governor Paterson failed to complete his portion of the group social studies project (thereby, like, seriously compromising Silver's entire college career) and totally went there with his beef, announcing the following to everybody in the General Budget Conference Committee:

Given the way the Governor submitted his budget, we need him to resubmit and therefore be an active player in the process. Once the Governor has accepted the framework, we can quickly move ahead with this open, public and transparent joint conference committee process.

So Paterson went home and got on three-way with his hos BFFs, and they totally decided to take the high road and go semantical, because the only way to learn new words is to, like, make them a part of your regular routine.

"We've been sitting here for two weeks trying to have meetings that they're dodging, wanting to have public meetings that they never seem to be prepared for," Paterson told Buffalo's WBEN 930AM, per the Post. "To make a snarky remark like that I think doesn't help the process."

snark: n. Combination of "snide" and "remark". Sarcastic comment(s). Also snarky (adj.) and snarkily (adv.) "Your boundless ineptitude is astounding," she snarkily declared.

But, see, Silver is in AP English, and he knows that snark isn't even in the real dictionary yet, just the urban one. And if Paterson's gonna start with the semantical warfare, well, he better be prepared to bring it!

Silver told the Post yesterday that the governor misunderstood his remarks, and the speaker insisted he was talking only about the necessity for Paterson to reintroduce amended budget legislation.

Snap! As for the group project (closing the state's estimated $9.2 billion budget), well, that assignment is way harsh.

P.S.: Governor Paterson -- that look on Silver's face? That's snarky. And possibly Snorky.
