Dispatches From Craigslist: Staten Island Man Tries to Sell Another Woman's Baby for $100
Twenty-three-year-old Paul Marquez met someone he really liked. But she didn't pay enough attention to him. Sad. Between her job and her two-month-old child, there just wasn't time enough for Marquez. So he did what any spurned lover would do: put the woman's baby up for sale on Craigslist for the low, low price of $100.
Driven by revenge, Marquez posted an ad to the "baby+kid" vertical on Craigslist that read:
I have a 2-month-old baby, she loves to play and have her little fun, but there's one problem, doctors say she has asthma and if she turns a certain way she can stop breathing. She's really getting on my nerves and I don't want her.
The post was complete with a picture of the child, in case a prospective customer wanted to check out the wares. And by wares, I mean human baby.
A little bit of false advertising though: The baby is a boy, not a girl as the ad was promising.
Any interested buyers were given the mother's phone number and e-mail address.
Marquez faces up to a year in jail on child endangerment and aggravated harassment charges. He returns to court this afternoon.
The ruse fell apart when a person tried to make an offer on the baby. Maybe we should find him.
