At the old Waverly Theater on Sixth Avenue, now known as Clearview's Waverly Cinema, the Independent Film Channel's midnight premiere of In Bad Taste (a documentary about John Waters) was further enlivened by the Divine look-alike contest held directly after the screening— at 2 a.m. With prizes that included season passes to the movies (okay, anything at Clearview's Waverly Cinema . . . ), gift certificates from Patricia Field, and comp dinners at Lips, how could a girl resist squeezing herself into a sequined gown and gorging on a plate of poop?
