Drummer Jerry Fuchs Falls Down Brooklyn Elevator Shaft, Dies
Details emerge about the drummer who fell down an elevator shaft in Brooklyn on Sunday and died. Jerry Fuchs had worked with LCD Soundsystem, !!!, Turing Machine, Maserati, and many other bands, and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman supporting John Legend and MSTRKRFT. "This weekend American independent music lost one of it's greatest drumming talents," says Tagbanger, "and many in New York, Atlanta, and elsewhere lost a true friend and exuberant, buoyant spirit."
Fuchs, Christian name Gerhardt, had attended a benefit for The Uniform Project at 338 Berry in Brooklyn and got stuck between the fourth and fifth floors in an elevator, of which fact he informed friends before trying to jump out; according to another guest who had been stuck with him and successfully escaped, Fuchs' clothing got caught on something as he made his attempt, which sent him down the shaft.
The Post notices that another !!! drummer, Mikel Gius, was fatally run down while bicycling in Sacramento in 2005.
