Duke Says Giuliani Jr. Cut from Team for Apple-Bonking, More
Andrew Giuliani, best known for his obstreperous behavior during his father's first inauguration as Mayor, filed suit in July against his college, Duke University, because he had been thrown off the school's golf team. Giuliani Jr. says the coach was just trying to winnow the team, and the ejection violated his "contract" with the school. Today AP reports Duke's response, which holds that the 22-year-old Giuliani had been ejected with cause, specifically "throwing an apple in the face of another player, breaking a golf club during a tournament, injuring a teammate and becoming verbally abusive with a coach."
The Duke Chronicle elaborates that "Team members did not take opportunities to vouch for Giuliani, and the [school's] response notes that five of six players specifically recommended that Giuliani's membership be 'terminated.'"
