Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Tonight's Village Voice Web Awards
You have questions? We have answers! Tonight's first annual Village Voice Web Awards are, in fact, tonight, December 7. Doors open at 7 p.m. at Santos Party House (96 Lafayette Street between Walker and White). The party will go until about 10, or whenever they kick us out.
Right off the bat, the important stuff: There will be Dog Fish Head beer for you all night, plus snacks, compliments of our friends at Whole Foods Market. There's also a very special open bar for the REAL DRINKERS among us from 7:30 to 8:30, featuring free beer, wine, rum, and other boozes. So noted.
Other important deets:
--When you get there, check in on Foursquare at the Web Awards to be entered to win a Flip Video. Winner will be announced at the end of the night.
--Astronomical Kid will perform at 8 p.m.
--Awards ceremony hosted by Todd Barry begin at 8:15. Awards include Best Sports Blog, Best Local Celebrity Site, Best Use of Twitter, Best Neighborhood Blog, Best Food Blog, Best Politics Blog, Best Tumblr, Best Local Music Site, Best Fashion Blogger, and more.
--Christopher Weingarten, a/k/a, @1000TimesYes, will perform a condensed live version of his infamous rant.
--We will give special awards for Best Local Internet Characters (Real and Fictional), Most Compelling Evidence of Intelligent Human Life on the Internet, Best Literary Twitter Account, and Tweets and Blog Post of the Year...among other things. There may be a gorilla. Be advised.
--Our party photo man Nate "Igor" Smith (a/k/a Drivenbyboredom.com) will be documenting the event. (Yes, he is a finalist in Best Photo Blog. See how we dealt with that conflict below.)
--If Igor can get one of you topless in a photo, he gets a bonus.
--FourSquare co-founder Naveen Selvadurai chose Best Neighborhood Blog, Best Photo Blog, Best Tumblr, and Best Flickr Pool. (That way Igor and Nicky Digital can't get mad at us.)
--We'll feature a Tweet roundup from the event, so remember to use hash tag #webawards as you tweet out your most important thoughts and feelings throughout the night.
It's not too late to get on the list to attend (a few spots still available!), so if you'd like to join, email us stat so we can put you on the list.
See y'all soon!
