FDNY battles 5-alarm fire in the Bronx

150 firefighters have responded to a 5-alarm fire in a block of stores at 31-05 Bainbridge Avenue and 204th Street since 3 AM.

Efforts to control the fire are taking place from the outside. Fire Chief John Sudnik said that the fire, which spread in the roof space above the 14 stores in the building, was too intense for firefighters to safely attack from inside the buildings.

Fire investigators are looking for the cause of the fire, which may have started in the basement of a business under construction.

edit: It took 5 hours to put out the fire. Four firefighters were slightly injured. Almost 200 responded.
