Fire at Avenue D Con Edison Plant
Firefighters are currently responding to a fire at the Con Edison plant on 15th Street along the East River. One of the plant's transformers caught fire and 12 units have been on the scene for about half an hour. The fire is still ongoing, but no one is believed to be injured, FDNY tells us.
The fire is contained to the one transformer, and if it spreads to another the response will be upgraded to a two or three-alarm fire. A large plume of smoke billowed from the plant, which can be seen in the following photo taken from Cooper Square:
There have been no reported service outages.
