Former FBI Agent Slams Prosecutor's "potbelly"
A new book by a former FBI agent cleared of involvement in mafia murder conspiracies slams Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes for being "always more interested in publicity than doing his job," the Daily News reports today.
Lindley DeVecchio also takes on one of Hynes' top prosecutors Michael Vecchione, who he describes as "vacant-eyed," with "one of those rock star beards," adding "Someone should tell him that it looks ridiculous on a middle-aged man with a potbelly."
DeVecchio was accused of involvement in plotting four mob hits with Gregory Scarpa, a capo in the Colombo crime family in the late 1980s and early 1990s. But the Hynes/Vecchione case collapsed when their main witness, Scarpa's girlfriend Linda Schiro, was exposed as a liar.

Schiro had testified that she had sat with Scarpa and DeVecchio numerous times as they planned murders.
But reporters Tom Robbins--formerly of the Village Voice--and Jerry Capeci produced tape-recordings in which Schiro specifically cleared DeVecchio. The judge in the case threw out all the charges, though he did lecture DeVecchio and the FBI for using Scarpa, a guy known as "the Grim Reaper," as an informant.
DeVecchio went on to write his book, "We're Going to Win This Thing: The Shocking Frame-Up of a Mafia Crime Buster."
A Hynes spokesman had no comment.
