Former Mayor Ed Koch Hospitalized
Look through the Voice's back issues (and Wayne Barrett's and Jack Newfield's City for Sale) and you will see our authors have not been kind to Ed Koch's mayoralty. But we are not complete monsters, and wish him well on his recent hospitalization. Koch, who rose from Village Independent Democrats member to three-term New York Mayor, has not been getting sufficient blood flow to his heart, and has entered New York Presbyterian Hospital, where doctors are scheduled to replace his aortic valve on Monday. Koch, a well-known gourmand, says "this is one hospital where the food is good." Though no spring chicken, the ex-Mayor has been very busy lately dishing out endorsements (ever the fusionist, the longtime Democrat endorsed Republican City Counciman Eric Ulrich just yesterday), and we hope he enjoys his rest.
