Fox News Boots Joan Rivers For Sarah Palin Jokes
If you're Sarah Palin, supervillain extraordinaire, and you derive your power from media mentions -- more even, if they're negative -- then your strength is at an all-time high, what after stepping on the shoulders of Arizona's fallen to wave wildly about political victimhood. And that all dovetails with the "blood libel" bloodbath, of course. Today, the Palin stink washes over Joan Rivers, who claims that Fox News kicked her from a forthcoming broadcast for calling Alaska's former governor "stupid." But Rivers has a reality show coming out, so really both women win.
Salon's War Room tells the beginning of the story:
Rivers was booked on Fox -- presumably "Fox & Friends" -- to promote an upcoming reality program. Then, over the weekend, she called Sarah Palin "stupid," into a video camera, because TMZ asked Joan Rivers what she thought about Sarah Palin, and that was the inevitable response. Before calling her "stupid," Rivers issued the following blood libel: "I think Sarah Palin is an amazing woman. I think she represents everything strong a woman can be, and I think she should go someplace -- to another planet, to show them, and get out of our face." So much for civility!
Palin, lest anyone forget, is on the Fox News payroll as an analyst, but it's unclear whether her contract comes with the power to axe an unseemly guest or whether Fox just knows who puts butts in seats and eyes on screens. (Hint: not Joan Rivers.) "As a result, our appearance on the Fox News Channel tomorrow morning has been cancelled. Outcome: DON'T PISS OFF SARAH PALIN. She's apparently 'very powerful,' and is obviously still smarting from the end of her reality show," Rivers said on Twitter.
We were ousted from Fox & Friends, I guess Fox & Former Friends. Our PR person was told specifically, because she asked why, it was because of the Sarah Palin remark, which they now are denying. This girl! We'll take lie detector tests. It's absolutely exactly what they said. Welcome to the eighties!
How so? In the eighties things were just very tight and censored and let's go back to McCarthyism, let's go even further back. I couldn't care anything about Sarah Palin. I even voted for her stupid left-footed daughter over David Hasselhoff. So you understand how neutral I am.
As I like to say, the new title could be Fox & Friends of Sarah Palin. Put it on the Christmas card.
Sounds like someone has a new routine! And best of luck to Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best? moving forward.
