Have You Seen... Fake Meter-Reading Thieves, Northeast Bronx
Two guys have been going around the Northeast Bronx pretending to be "water department employees" and robbing elderly women on that pretense. The perps speak Italian, which apparently assists them in pulling their scam in this Italian neighborhood.
They say they're going to check the meter or something, and while one of them converses with the resident, the other steals stuff out of the house. In September they did this on Doris Street and on Roebling Avenue; on October 7th they hit a householder in the vicinity of Lawton Avenue. They work mornings and afternoons.
Both men are white; suspect #1 is described as 30-35 years old, about 5'10 with light brown hair; suspect # 2 (see police sketch) as 40-45 years old, about 5'7 and 230 pounds, with dark hair.
If you have information as to these men or these incidents, NYPD asks you to contact 1-800-577-TIPS(8477), www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or text 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577.
