Hear the 911 Tapes
In the 12 discs of taped 911 calls released by the city last week, we don't hear the voices of the callers. But we hear a lot: the sound of fire alarms at the WTC, the tension in the operators' voices as the crisis widens, and the sounds of confusion at the dispatch centers. We hear the advice the operators give to people, like telling many of them to stay put. And we hear snippets of information about what was going on in the towers, if the operator happened to repeat it. Here are some parts of the audio record:
